About the Founder

Karen Laing
Trained as a midwife, Karen is also a lactation consultant, perinatal educator, integrative health coach and consultant. She is the Founder of Birthways, the largest and most established doula program in the country where she developed integrative approaches to meet the needs of expectant and new parents. Having trained at Duke Integrative Medicine, she is also an integrative health coach.

Through The Thriving Place, this heart of wisdom and compassion reaches women who may be contemplating parenting, embarking on other life transitions, facing health challenges or discovering their path to greater health and happiness!
Karen has led Mindful Parenting and other retreats for women in addition to classes and groups for those contemplating pregnancy or parenting, those who are expecting, and those that are in the early stages of parenting. She has trained and mentored midwives , doulas and lactation professionals. She has presented locally and to a national audience her compassionate, warm and supportive teachings on advocacy, mind/body wellness throughout the childbearing year, emotional health, including perinatal mood disorders and mindfulness. She has taught and mentored doulas, perinatal educators, midwives, &lactation professionals in models of care thatare holistic, integrative and collaborative.

A knowledgeable practitioner as well as a natural teacher and compassionate listener, Karen has helped countless women find comfort and confidence through life transitions.
